Soul-Trumpeter Lin Rountree is the latest artist to emerge from the ‘new’ Detroit music factory. Whether as a solo artist or part of the hit ensemble, Generation neXt, Lin’s playing has been described as soulful, funky, and sensual. Be it R&B/Soul or Groove Jazz, he has an innate ability to connect his music to his listener’s soul.
'Soulfunky' is Lin Rountree's fifth studio CD and follow up to the success of 2013's 'Serendipitious'. The 12 song self-produced collection is Rountree's funkiest and most soul-filled to date featuring the hits 'Amplified' and 'Wish It Was' (currently Top 10) along with some of the hottest musicians and producers in the business including Julian Vaughn, Nils, Mike Phillips, Lebron and Nate Harasim. 'Soulfunky' will take you on a journey that will have your head boppin' and body rockin'.
Lin began playing trumpet in Alexandria, VA when he was just 11. He attended The Duke Ellington School in Washington, D.C. and was recruited to Florida A&M University where he performed with the famed Marching 100. Lin cites Miles Davis, Quincy Jones, Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw and Tom Browne as huge influences on his playing and writing styles. After graduation Lin hit the Detroit scene hard, playing in Motown bands and founding ‘Up Close’, one of the most sought after bands in the city.
2011 saw Lin on the top 30 Billboard Smooth Jazz Chart four times with singles from ‘Soul-Tree, The Soul-Jazz Experience’ and in 2012, Lin appeared in the hit film ‘Sparkle’ starring Whitney Houston which boosted his international profile. A 2013 headline show at the Dubai International Jazz Festival was next, hence his subsequent signing to Trippin 'N' Rhythm Records.
